From the days when Hollywood Boulevard was a dirt road me, and one studio provided a stagecoach to take its employees to work, through the heyday of the studio system, Finch & Rosenkrantz conduct the reader on a tour of the glamorous movie colony. This book is a reconstruction of Hollywood’s Golden Age, as it was experienced by those who lived and worked and played there • Linha de Sombra • www.linhadesombra.com • Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema ◼︎

“We drove down Sunset Boulevard and there were still residences on the street, where there are nothing but businesses now. There were photography studios there with still photographs out on the lawn - big, heroic blow-ups. Everything on Ventura Boulevard was shaped like a windmill or a hotdog. It looked like Disneyland. There were two or three restaurants for the movie crowd and its was fashionable to put a black tie and go to the Mocambo or Ciro’s. We worked on Saturdays in those days, and then on Saturday night we all went out and had fun - just as you would in a any factory town.”
